AGC | Production Shift Supervisor, Bradford, ON, CA

AGC Automotive Americas (AANA) fabricates high quality automotive safety glass for automobile manufacturers located in the United States and abroad. AGC’s automotive glass operations have the top market share in the automotive glazing market for laminated and tempered glass.  Our Bradford, Ontario site is responsible for assembly of our automotive glass products, supplying two large OEM’s in our region.

Summary of Position:
The Production Shift Supervisor, under the direction of the Production Manager, will primarily be responsible to develop strategic performance metrics and targets that are consistent with company goals. This position supervises a group of workers engaged in producing the company’s products.  Interprets written or verbal orders; enforces procedure of work (SOP’s); assigns duties to Team Leaders and Production Associates and inspects their work for quality and quantity. 

Responsible for maintaining harmony among team and applying coaching and counselling where necessary up to level 3 through coordination with the Dept. Manager and HR.  Ensures time keeping reports are processed with necessary corrections daily to ensure proper pay of the team.  Manages the training of associates, new associate orientations, and Production training records.  Responsible for regular performance reviews of Team Leaders as well as the Production associates.

Responsibilities/Core Functions of the role to include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensures consistent production and delivery requirements for company and customers are achieved
  • Responsible for OEE – Overall Operational Efficiency
  • Working knowledge of an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system ie. SAP
  • Liaise with other departments to ensure that all plant expectations are met
  • Provide feedback to Production Manager to resolve any issues that arise
  • Verify associate records or forms related to health & safety, production, and time sheets, daily, and liaise with associates to correct any inaccuracies
  • Ensure compliance with the AGC Quality Management System and Occupational Health & Safety Act and relevant regulations (e.g. Industrial Establishments)
  • Direct and/or coordinate the activities of associates engaged in the production
  • Develop strategic performance metrics and KPI targets that are consistent with company goals, including annual goals for measuring their own performance (PDR)
  • Ensure that all associates comply with company policies, procedures, required regulations and legislation, and ethical standards
  • Ensure the effectiveness of associates through training, assignment of duties, coaching and discipline
  • Oversee staff to ensure work is being performed according to established standards
  • Plan the department's workload and flow
  • Translate strategic goals into practical actions
  • Provide leadership for associate relations through effective communications, training, and development
  • Evaluate associate performance and provide feedback, coaching, and formal evaluations
  • Provide informal feedback and coaching to staff on an ongoing basis
  • Ensure that safe work practices are being followed
  • Ensure that all staff under your direction are equipped with and are using the proper personal protective equipment
  • Ensure that all tools and equipment is maintained and performing to quality standards and safety requirements
  • Ensure associates have clear goals and are aware of expectations
  • Coordinate activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and delegating work accordingly
  • Oversee compliance with company policies and standards for cost control, waste reduction, quality, safety, and complete and on-time delivery
  • Oversee all workmanship to ensure high standards and efficiency
  • Oversee departmental outputs, ensuring they meet production schedules, safety, and quality standards, as well as customer needs
  • Oversee all manufacturing and processing procedures, the setting of machine or equipment controls, as well as the production and inspection processes
  • Participate in site and workplace inspections
  • Investigate accidents/incidents/near misses, and submit timely reports to Health & Safety and Department Managers that includes countermeasures to ensure hazard identified and eliminated or reduced
  • Investigates and completes Quality Trouble Reports
  • Ensure required Production reports are prepared by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and submitted without errors to Production Manager
  • Support SOP and Work Instruction creation and ongoing maintenance, providing technical information for documentation
  • Ensures proper back-up for the Team Leaders
  • New model activities including coordinating new model trial events
  • Assists Manager with new equipment, process design and layout
  • Ensures conformance to requirements of the Environmental Management System

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED preferred
  • Ability to learn to utilize problem-solving tools such as Six Sigma, Fishbone, KT, 8D, etc.
  • Basic knowledge of Windows computer system
  • Ability to learn quality standards to produce the glass product
  • Previous manufacturing experience preferred

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical components
  • Excellent interpersonal, associate relations, and communication skills both verbally and in writing
  • Must have effective planning and organizational skills with ability to prioritize, multi-task, and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Must exhibit strong judgment relating to confidential matters
  • Must be able and willing to adapt to change
  • Must have strong analytical and mathematical skills
  • Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and recall
  • Must be able to effectively make decisions and work under pressure
  • Must be able to effectively prepare presentations and present information to a group
  • Computer literacy for Microsoft office programs, such as word, excel, and power point

Salary: $60,000.00-$70,000.00
