Summary of Position:

All duties related to this position are for the U.S. and Canadian business units.  Maintains payroll-related accounts and is responsible for the reconciliation and accuracy of one or more accounts within a complex accounting system. Lead the month end close for General Accounting ensuring deadlines met. Researches and advises payroll staff concerning the accounting treatment of complex transactions. May perform periodic internal audits of various payroll areas and prepare materials for external or internal auditors. The position will be responsible for support of General Accounting, providing analysis upon request. Maintains automated general ledger systems.  Position will lead programming and maintenance of the automated general ledger systems as well as processing of small US and Canadian payrolls.  Verifies and prepares Quarterly and Year-end tax information for Payroll Manager Review. Various other duties as assigned by Payroll Manager.

Primary responsibility is payroll accounting and HRIS reporting.

Primary Responsibilities:

Payroll Accounting: 50%    

  • Account reconciliations.
  • Preparation and posting of journal entries.
  • Maintenance of General ledger interfaces with AGNA Accounting systems
  • General Accounting support and KPI reporting
  • Creation and posting of Journal entries to the general ledger on a pre-determined schedule. 

Payroll Processing:  30%

  • Providing assistance to the locations, in the administration of AGC policies in regard to Timekeeping
  • & Payroll systems.
  • Coordination of routine/minor changes documents to insure proper processing.
  • Processing accurate and timely payroll for various pay cycle schedules and employee types.
  • Validation of payroll totals by period, quarter, and year.
  • Communicate with ADP representative to meet all appropriate deadlines (weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly).
  • Data entry of/insuring compliance with state/federal regulations regarding the processing of involuntary deductions, bonuses, fringe benefits, etc.
  • Processing of supplemental payments & manual checks.

System Maintenance/Administration: 15%    

  • Work in conjunction with the HR Dept. to maintain all employee level data to ensure year end accuracy.
  • Provide technical assistance with time clocks, down time, or general system issues.
  • Ensure internal audit controls are met.
  • Training for Time and Attendance system users.
  • Maintain Pay Code and Pay Rules.
  • Creation of new taxing jurisdictions when necessary.
  • Maintaining areas associated with payroll processing such as WGPS and Direct Deposit.
  • Maintain Pay Codes, Pay Rules, accumulators, and system calculations.

Other Tasks as assigned: 5% 

  • Providing accurate and timely reporting for Management by meeting deadlines.
  • Record retention.
  • Providing support on an ‘as needed’ basis for Management, union representatives, and employees.

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years accounting experience.
  • Experience using Enterprise EV5/EV6, and Kronos is a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • 3 – 5 years Payroll experience 
  • Strong time-management, math, and organizational skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
  • Analytical/problem solving skills required.
  • Bachelor’s or Associates Degree in Business, Accounting, or related field preferred.
