Summary of Position:

Manager of Purchasing for the Automotive business unit of AGC Flat Glass North America, Inc. directs and oversees the purchasing function of the Automotive business segment. The position plans, organizes, directs, manages, evaluates and is responsible for the budget, purchasing activities, supplier quality, and strategy supporting the Automotive glass business, including the identification of opportunities for operational cost improvements. Use of data analysis for prompt and effective decision making. Position collaborates with Corporate Purchasing department to develop policies and procedures related to the procurement of goods and services.   Responsible for all aspects of their relationship with suppliers, including contract negotiation, holding vendors accountable, and responding quickly to changing supply requirements. The position aims to select suppliers that can be long-term partners and help the company meet its growth and cost reduction objectives.  A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. High flexibility to work cross functionally and vertically when required.

Role Location: Farmington Hills, MI 

Responsibilities:

Purchasing Negotiations, Vendor Management and Supplier Quality

  • Develop, lead and execute purchasing strategies for the Automotive glass business segment.
  • Partner with stakeholders to ensure clear requirements required of purchasing department. 
  • Represent AGC to lead negotiations that achieve optimal supply agreements for key raw materials (examples: NML components, silver ink and paste, mirror buttons, vinyl, glass, MRO supplies, etc.).  Assess, manage and mitigate risks associated with contracts.
  • Craft negotiation strategies and close deals with optimal terms.
  • Develop and implement purchasing and contract management instructions, policies, and procedures.
  • Resolve vendor or contractor grievances and claims against suppliers to ensure quality satisfaction

Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare various reports regarding market conditions and department purchasing activities.
  • Track and report key performance metrics to reduce purchase price and improve effectiveness.
  • Digitalize and disseminate key information through the organization.
  • Perform cost and scenario analysis, and benchmarking.
  • Optimize current use of system SAP to increase department efficiency.

Leadership and Organizational Planning

  • Partner with Plant Management to coordinate activities of plant purchasing buyers in obtaining maximum value of AGC procurement expenditures for materials, MRO materials and supply contracts.
  • Partner with Tier 2 Management to coordinate activities of Tier 2 buyers in obtaining maximum value for AGC.
  • Direct and coordinate activities of personnel engaged in purchasing negotiations for materials, supplies, and services. 
  • Participate in or lead monthly purchasing team meetings to educate and facilitate the sharing of information between locations and with Supply Chain Team.
  • Provide leadership and training for AGC buyers to achieve the lowest cost procurement of materials and services.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain Management or Purchasing required.  Advance degree or purchasing related certifications preferred.
  • Minimum 9 years’ experience in purchasing function.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and negotiating skills to build effective working relationships with supply partners.
  • SAP practical knowledge and familiarity with SAP purchasing processes, working knowledge preferred.
  • Ability to proactively identify and resolve problems in alignment with organizational goals.
  • Demonstrated positive leadership and team building capabilities.
  • Technical acuity; able to learn, understand, evaluate and apply technical aspects of AGC’s Automotive products and subcontractor production processes.
  • Demonstrated analytical ability to assess the performance of suppliers against criteria such as quality, cost, reliability, ability to innovate and financial stability.
  • Demonstrated financial and analytical skills to assess the total cost of dealing with a supplier, including price, commercial terms, and factors such as the costs of delivery, administration quality control and inventory.
  • Interest in market dynamics along with business sense.
  • Proven experience networking and collaborating.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, by air or car up to 25%.
