AGC | Product Engineer Leader, Farmington Hills, MI

Summary of On-site Position:

The Product Engineer Leader is a working product engineer but also a leader providing direction to a dedicated engineering team which is developing validated technical product designs and solutions to meet internal and OEM customer requirements. This position has the responsibility to approve design concepts and releases using existing AGC glass and assembly design standards utilizing the AGC Design Review, Maturation Review, and Engineering Change release processes. This position collaborates with Process and Product Technology Groups on key new technology/industrialization programs, as well as leads PDCA and continuous improvement activities.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Principal Face / Contact supporting and leading technical negotiation and solution provision developed and validated by own engineering team, satisfying internal and OEM customer requirements. 
  • Validated Designs / Solutions must meet OEM customer requirements and satisfy internal design standards targeting feasibility and profitability to manufacture.
  • Product design technical expert responsible for review and approval of all glass and assembly designs
  • Participate in all design review meetings conducted by own engineering team members (Design Review Procedure)
  • Review, approve, and sign all glass, assembly, and component drawings as “approved by”.
    • Includes “build to print” and AGC design responsible designs.
    • Ensure AGC 3D CAD and 2D drawing standards are followed.
    • Drive design changes as necessary to ensure manufacturability with the goal of increased profit.
  • Product / Process Design Standard Development 
  • Work with Product and Process Technology members providing validation support.
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer to Program Management and Product Engineering New Model Launch membership upon release of new Product / Process Design standards by PDT and PTG respectively.
  • Develop and implement design standards for new technology targeted for manufacturing.
  • Manage, train, and mentor engineering team (New Model Launch Product Engineer, Design Release Engineer), including performance development review and assessments.
  • Able to support the team with planning daily activities throughout the development process.
  • Involvement early in the program during the RFQ process, bringing engineering inputs to customers/sales/Program management before program award.
  • Lead Lessons Learned / PDCA activities, report, and standardizing outcomes.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. – Technical Degree 
  • Internal Candidate – Product Engineer II with 2~3 years of product engineering experience and leading multiple program launches with more than one OEM
  • External Candidate – 4~5 years of manufacturing industry experience with 3~4 years of product design experience and leading multiple program launches with various OEM’s, award through SoP
  • Demonstrated leadership level interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills 
  • Working knowledge of CATIA and/or UG CAD software packages for 3D models and 2D drawing 
  • Working experience with IATF and APQP processes, must
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications: Project, Excel, Word, Visio, SharePoint, Adobe
  • Team Center Proficiency, preferred
  • Glass experience, preferred
