AGC | Manufacturing Process Engineer, Bellefontaine, OH

AGC Glass Company North America, located in Bellefontaine, Ohio, fabricates high-quality automotive safety glass for automobile manufacturers located in the United States and abroad. We are searching for individuals who want to join our fast-paced, high-tech, team environment.

Summary of Position:

To provide leadership for engineering-related plant activities including process support, capital improvement, & process improvements. The Manufacturing Engineer will focus on process support, process improvements, as well as supporting maintenance. Serves in a supporting role to the Sr. Engineering Manager. Working with the Sr. Engineering Manager, this Engineer will plan and coordinate the activities of the engineering department, including the effective utilization of department resources to influence decisions toward achieving project deliverables and meeting department Key Performance Indicator (KPI) goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Supports all Environmental, Health, Safety, and Sustainability initiatives.
  • Evaluates & continuously improves manufacturing processes; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors; soliciting observations from production associates.
  • Capability to use trouble shooting skills to evaluate and find solutions to equipment issues as they arise.
  • Improves manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
  • Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements.
  • Prepares product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Keeps equipment operational by working with maintenance and other services; following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures; requesting special services.
  • Assists with training associates on how to operate production equipment and prepares work instructions on equipment options as required.
  • Lead and or participate in problem-solving activities regarding quality, maintenance, or process concerns.
  • Coordinate resources to provide process support and maintenance support.
  • Develop engineers, coordinators, and maintenance through coaching and continued training activities.
  • Perform roles and responsibilities of a Project Engineer
  • Develop concepts for new production lines or improvements to existing lines.
  • Discuss and layout project specifications.
  • Develop cost estimates.
  • As directed by department manager:
  • Analyze project risks by working with project teams to develop suitable contingency plans for tasks that would result in project failure if not properly executed
  • Review department construction sites for potential safety hazards and work with project leads to resolve concerns.
  • Prepare and present department progress towards goals and KPI measurables.
  • Prepare and present general project status updates.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related field.
  • Five plus years of experience in an engineering function to include soldering experience.
  • 3 years of leadership experience.
  • Extensive experience/knowledge in soldering processes, controls, tooling, and equipment for automotive glass.
  • Experience with 2-D & 3-D CAD systems (i.e.: Catia, Autocad, Solidworks).
  • Understanding of PLC programming (Allen Bradley and Omron preferred).
  • Vision System experience (Keyence, Cognex, etc.).
  • Worked with robotics (Fanuc & Yaskawa).
  • Injection molding experience is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of and ability to utilize problem-solving tools such as Kaizen Spiral, Six Sigma, Fishbone, 8D, etc.
  • Ability to develop and present solid solutions to team members and management.
  • Ability to travel as required.
