AGC | Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Specialist Bradford, Ontario

We are seeking an Environmental, Health & Safety Specialist who will be responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the Occupational Health & Safety programs and initiates, and Environmental Management / ISO14001 program and systems, as well as some general Administrative duties.


  • Compliance with all federal, provincial and local environmental laws and regulations, as well as AGNA Corporate initiatives and programs
  • HSE accident and incident analysis, investigations and reporting
  • Site HSE inspections
  • Facilitating and/or conducting required HSE training including Annual ISO14001 and Emergency Response Plan Refresher training
  • Evaluate practices, procedures, and facilities to assess risk and adherence with corporate, local, provincial, federal rules and regulations
  • Facilitates risk assessment at the location to identify critical HSE hazards and aspects
  • Evaluate leading and lagging indicators to track performance against targets and objectives
  • Support creation of HSE, goals for the site manager and appropriate activity based goals for functional managers, front-line supervisors and leadership team to drive HSE culture, compliance and results
  • Facilitation of HSE engagement through teams and committees needed to accomplish the established annual targets and objectives
  • New hire HSE orientations
  • Emergency Response plan and Team involvement, including conduction annual fire drills, meetings and minutes
  • Act as HSE representative where required, including representing the Company for contact with Ministry of Labor and Ministry of the Environment inspectors
  • Manage ISO14001:2015 compliance, internal and external audits
  • Annual NPRI (National Pollutant Release Inventory)/TRA (Toxics Reduction Act) reporting on Government of Canada Environment and Climate Change website and work with AGC Marketing/IT to ensure TRA Public Report is posted on the Corporate website
  • Maintenance of waste management system. Work with a 5S group to segregate and store hazardous waste. Develop and oversee environmental contractors for waste and recycling programs
  • Chemical Management, receiving and storing chemicals, ensure FIFO is followed while storing and dispensing chemicals
  • Collect and log environmental information and monitor the progress of environmental improvement programs
  • Maintenance of 3 Year Roadmaps for Health and safety as required by Corporate Automotive Division Head Office
  • Program planning related to conservation and management of natural resources
  • Provide administrative support for projects by collecting data, providing project documentation and performing other general administrative duties including assistance with document control for ISO programs and Health, Safety and Environmental programs
  • Monthly or quarterly KPI reports completion for consolidation with all AGC-NA locations for Japan Head Office
  • Attend environmental training as necessary to stay up-to-date on environmental regulations
  • Attend Corporate Health, Safety and Environmental meetings in North-American region
  • Development and maintenance of HSE company policies and standards, including PPE
  • Compliance with all Company policy and standards
  • Ensure adherence to all aspects of AGC’s Global Code of Conduct
  • Continuous Improvement Initiatives


  • Post-secondary education, such as Ontario College Diploma in Environmental technology or related field
  • Strong knowledge of risk management principles or other OHS related training
  • Joint Health and Safety Committee certification an asset
  • ISO and OHSAS internal auditor training an asset
  • Knowledge and practical application experience with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation and Guidelines an asset
  • Ability to remain calm and poised in urgent situations
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively prepare and present information to a group
  • Good time management and organizational skills
  • Must be able to travel via ground and air to US/North America for business meetings
  • Valid G driver’s license
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs
